A Perfect Saturday

I grew up with all these ideas in my head about what married life would be like. I'd find my Prince Charmont (I had a slight Ella Enchanted obsession) and we'd stroll through life, basically vacationing every day all day and no one would have to work... Ever!

Needless to say, once I was actually married I realized that fairy tales are shams and we do have to work. Sometimes even on weekends and after hours, if your husband is in news radio. So adjusting to my adolescent dreams being shattered wasn't the easiest. It hasn't even been 2 years so I'm not 100% there yet. Haha. I'm realizing it's best to focus on the time we do have together.

A few Saturdays ago was the first in awhile where we haven't had anything specific we had to do. No prior obligations, no work. I slept in but Ryan was already up and at 'em. As per usual. He was working on our 4th bedroom (future nursery?). It doesn't have a real purpose yet. It's gonna be Ryan's version of a man-cave for the time being. And also houses our treadmill. He was organizing, since we had just been sticking boxes in there. And he put the treadmill together, yay! When he was done being super productive, I convinced him we should go out to Jefferson Pointe to do some shopping. And he agreed! (Only because Hungry Howie's happens to be on that side of town and he had been craving it for awhile now.) We were on the hunt for some artwork to put above our mantle. We shopped for a few hours and ended up only really buying new pillows for our couch. They are super pretty though. See below.

We got our pizza to go and took it home. We started watching a documentary called Monumental, about the founding of our country. Then we both fell asleep on the couch. I think the pizza knocked us out. Haha. Once we woke up, I picked up the book I had started reading, The Fault in Our Stars and finished it. I was crying by the end, and Ryan offered to read the last few pages out loud. Which, of course, made me cry more.

And I can't remember what we did the rest of the evening, but I remember saying to him "This is what I imagined married life would be like." Just enjoying each other's company on a beautiful summer day.
